How to Play

Welcome, fellow Sifters! By now you have viewed our video orientation and are now ready for some specifics about how to play. For those of you that are already familiar with SCVNGR, go ahead and jump right in. If SCVNGR is as mysterious to you as time travel and these “smart phones” we’ve found, we will get you up to speed in no time.

When you launch the application, you will see the following screen:

Go ahead and select the “Treks” icon. That will send us on our way.

“The Sifter Society” should be among one of the nearby treks. If it is not, you can either press the geolocate button in the upper right of the screen, or do a search. If you are a veteran Sifter, you will see the trek under “My Treks.”

Currently the National Zoological Park is the only location we’re searching. Under “Places”, select the National Zoological Park. It will take you to the challenges specific to the zoo.

Here are our challenges! All you have to do to complete a challenge is to tap it.

An excellent choice! There are several different types of challenges you can complete. This one requires you to take a photo in order to complete the challenge. For this challenge, you will need to take a picture of yourself demonstrating an animal behavior.<

This is a variation on the photo challenge. For this challenge, you must listen to a snippet of ancient scripture. Once you have memorized it, share the scripture with a fellow visitor, then take their picture to record their reaction.

Most of the challenges you encounter will look like this one. As you explore the Zoo, think about how a 21st century animal would adapt to our living conditions.

Then enter your answer and hit “Go.”

Congratulations! You have successfully completed this challenge!

Some of our challenges have very specific answers. While you might learn about spiders in the Invertebrate House, this particular species may not be helpful in helping plants spread and grow.

Oh no! See the red banner at the bottom? That tells you that a better answer is available. Don’t worry, if at first you don’t succeed, try and try again.

That’s all there is to it! Enjoy your trek and remember: what will you bring back?
